Seeing the Northern Lights is a unique and breathtaking experience. I am sure that it is also in many people`s bucket list. I put it as my #1 bucket list because I have just checked the box out recently. Witnessing this beautiful display of colors and light is definitely an unforgettable experience. We got to see this wonderful phenomenon during our trip at Rovaniemi, Finland. Even though it was during Easter holidays in April when the night time is getting shorter and shorter, we still managed to HUNT it after following a profession team.
We went to Rovaniemi for the Aurora hunting. The city is located within the Arctic Circle, which is an area where the Northern Lights are often visible. Rovaniemi is a popular tourism city therefore we can easily find several tour companies that offer guided Northern Lights tours. April is already the end of Aurora season so we decided to stay there for the whole Easter holidays, hoping that the solar activity will be good enough at least one day. We went to a random tour company in the city center and they actually recommended us two potential days during our stay. We choice the earlier one so that we can go to the 2nd one as well in case we don`t see northern light on the 1st one or the camera doesn`t catch us together with the camera. It is not easy to have a good photo with Aurora because the northern light changes so quickly and you might also be blurry in the photo due to the long exposure time. It turns out that choosing a northern light hunting package with professional photography is a wise choice. The northern light from our phone is still looking fabulous but the portrait is too blurry. Unless you bring a tripod for stabilize the phone and a light source to shine up your face.
We all dressed up in the same snowsuit uniform provided by the tour company. It turns out to be necessary because the midnight of Arctic Circle in April is still freezing cold. The tour guide promise to drive us to three different location, hoping that we can at least see northern light in one location. The lights of cities and towns can make it more difficult to see the Northern Lights, so it’s best to be in a remote location away from artificial light sources. Our first location is a frozen lake with open view. Luckily, we are already able to see the northern light there and I would say it is truly stunning!
We stay there for around half an hour and the aurora storm come 4 or 5 times. Even though we are a group of 15 people, everyone satisfied our own photo with Aurora and also got a moment to enjoy the Northern Lights with our own eyes. The dancing lights in the sky can come in a range of colors, including green, pink, purple, and blue, and can move and change shape in mesmerizing ways. The Northern Lights can change quickly and unpredictably, which is part of what makes them so exciting to witness. They can start out as a faint glow on the horizon and quickly intensify into a bright and colorful display of lights, or they can appear suddenly and disappear just as quickly. The colors and patterns of the Northern Lights can also change rapidly, with waves of light or light curtains that seem to dance across the sky.
